Meet Dr. Fay Maureen Butler

A Woman Radically Given to Christ

Dr. Fay Maureen Butler is the fourth child of the Late Rev/Attorney John L. Butler and Dr. Fay Ellis Butler. A graduate of William Smith College, she has also received two Masters Degrees and a Doctorate, all from Columbia University. She has spent the past Twenty-Six years working in higher education, twenty-one of which have been spent in various positions at The City University of New York. She is currently the Director of Student Engagement at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY



Her responsibilities include: Co-Curricular Programs, First Year Experience Programs, Civic and Cultural Engagement, Peer Mentors, New Student Orientation, Student Leadership Program/Conference. Community Outreach, Black Male Empowerment Cooperative (BMEC) , the Womens Center, Chapter Advisor to the National Society of Leadership and Success- Sigma Alpha Pi, and Editor of Student Health 101,a digital magazine for Students. She has served on the President’s Cabinet, the Student Affairs Cabinet, the Student Development Management Team, the Student Services Department Team, and the New Student Orientation Committee. She is also the faculty mentor for the student Christian Club on campus.



Her accolades include the following: serving as a member of the Steering Committee for the Middle States Self Study where it was noted by her college President that she served with distinction.  She is in the second year of the Center for Teaching and Learning Faculty Scholars Publication Workshop and she has also been accepted into the Center for Teaching and Learning Art of Advising Seminar which will run during the 2012-2013 academic year. She served on the Foundations of Excellence/First Year Experience Committee during Fall 2012 and chaired a subcommittee. Dr. Butler has presented numerous papers and workshops during her career. She is currently conducting research on First generation students at the Community College on “Types of Family Influence during the College Choice Process”. She hopes that her research will improve student engagement and retention. She has presented her research at professional development conferences. Dr. Butler was recently selected to present a workshop at the Dream Deferred Conference 2013 sponsored by the College Board.



Pastor Maureen, a fourth generation member of COGIC, is the Founder and Pastor of Upper Room International Ministries COGIC in Brooklyn, NY. She is also the founder of W.O.W (Worship and Word on Wednesdays at LaGuardia Community College. She loves Campus Ministry). She is the District Missionary for the Acts 2:42/John L Butler Memorial District in the New York Southeast Jurisdiction. In the past, she has served as a Jurisdictional Youth Chairlady and Sunday School Field Representative. She is a former member of the Bishop CD Owens Scholarship Committee. She also arranged the first National college fair for the National Scholastic Motivation Ministries. She was recently appointed Chair of the Remunerations Subcommittee of the General Assembly Job Description and Remunerations committee. She is also a co- instructor for a workshop at the COGIC National Holy Convocation.

In her spare time, she likes to cook, exercise and read. She is also a Notary Public. She is known for her easy smile, even disposition and laughing a lot. Pastor Maureen is Saved, Sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. She is exclusively committed to God!!!! Pastor Maureen is a Breast cancer survivor.
